SEADE Softlanding and Learning Expedition Programme

Focus on Pilot Regions

Both programmes aimed to connect innovators with new ecosystems, partners, and markets from a specific pilot region — the Softlanding Programme lasted three months, while the Learning Expedition ran for one week.

Senegal

The Softlanding programme in Senegal has already produced tangible results: two collaborations are currently being set up between participants and Senegalese partners. In addition, one participant has already registered her business in Senegal, while another is preparing to open a branch in Dakar.

Ghana

In Ghana, the Softlanding Programme led to at least six collaborations, with participants describing the experience as a real “turning point.” One is already in the process of signing a MOU with two companies she engaged with while in Ghana and has planned a 3-month stay in Ghana to set up her business there. Meanwhile, during the Learning Expedition, the SEADE booth at Ghana Digital Innovation Week gave participants the chance to showcase their products and connect with both local and international stakeholders.

Kenya

The Kenyan Learning Expedition gave participants a unique visit to ICIPE, where they explored how IoT technologies are applied in practice — and the gaps still to be addressed. One participant described being “blown away by how ICIPE is using sensors to track insect behaviour”, highlighting the fresh insights and opportunities uncovered during the trip

South Africa

In South Africa, the Learning Expedition culminated in a strong highlight: participants were invited to speak on the Innovation Stage at the AfricArena Grand Summit. This gave them the chance to present their businesses, organisations, and institutions while connecting with a wide and influential audience.
